Choke ! VIDEO
Escalating conflicts among adolescents too often lead to violence. Choke!
dramatizes this issue, teaching pro-health conflict resolution skills which can
de-escalate a situation that may seem out of control. Danny, a talented soccer player,
chokes on a free kick and his team loses. When resentful teammates make disparaging
remarks, Danny and another player get into an argument, leading to physical threats.
Latoya, a member of the girl's team, explains how to de-escalate the conflict without
losing face. Another player takes Latoya's words to heart and reveals the reason Danny

Adult survivors of incest reveal the
devastating effects of childhood incest on adult life. Candid discussion and the
presentation of artwork and poetry created while in therapy are used to help the group
members express their realm of feelings. Guilt, shame, anger, pain, and self-hatred are
expressed along with the realization that they can make conscious choices in their lives.
The therapist explains how breaking the silence and talking about the incest experience
marks the beginning of the healing process. The testimonies shared in this program will

Adolescent Choices Training : A Model for Violence Prevention Groups with African American
Youth

PACT is a video-based staff training program that provides practical
guidelines and procedures that have proven to be effective in conducting violence
prevention training with African American youth. The program utilizes a three-part

Preventing Violence VIDEO
On any given school day, 160,000 guns are carried into American
classrooms by students. Every day, 15 youths are killed by handguns. An American
adolescent commits suicide with a gun every six hours. Firearm murders of youths 19 and
under rose 125% in a recent six-year period. Featuring movie star Samuel L. Jackson, this
program provides compelling media support for Health and Guidance units on teen violence,
conflict resolution, youth-at-risk, behavioral choices and decision making, and gangs.
Students' understanding of the correlation between risky behavior, violence and their
personal well-being is reinforced as the program examines the problem from a variety of
viewpoints--students, victims, parents, educators, courts, police and perpetrators--and
discusses possible solutions. The Rap group Slick Boys uses teen-oriented music to
reinforce the anti-violence message. The group, consisting of three Chicago cops who want
to get guns away from teens, has won national attention, both from the media and from the
young people they work hard to reach.
