Critical Rescue:
Officer Down

"Requesting assistance. We have a possible 211 in progress at the Bank of America on Laurel Canyon, north of Kittridge. We have shots fired. All units, officer down...We need an ambulance."

Follow all of the white-knuckle action of an actual bank robbery as real-life footage and dramatic reenactments put you in the middle of a deadly engagement between police and two heavily armed bank robbers. On the morning of February 28, 1997, officers on patrol in North Hollywood, CA spot two men wearing ski masks and body armor enter a bank. As one of the officers reaches for his radio, the men in the bank open fire with automatic weapons. Bank customers and employees drop to the floor, screaming. Backup arrives just as the gunmen emerge from the bank with weapons blazing and bags loaded with cash. Police officers return fire, but their pistols and shotguns are no match for the robbers' military-style weapons.

Officers, even some nearby citizens, are cut down in the storm of gunfire. Still firing, the gunmen sprint to their getaway car. The police give chase – but without body armor or automatic weapons, they are completely outgunned. One officer attempts a better firing position, only to be shot down, completely exposed to the crossfire. Suddenly, a fellow patrolman speeds through the hail of bullets, hoists the wounded officer into his cruiser and rushes him to safety. After a raucous 40 minutes, the guns finally go silent. The robbers are dead. Officers lie strewn about the concrete battlefield. The heroic actions of police and emergency personnel prove successful.

It sounds like dramatic, big-screen suspense – but in reality, it's just another day in the life of the men and women in blue.
