Protecting Your Senses



Sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell; these five senses provide ways for people to experience and learn about things in their environment. Our senses also protect us from everyday dangers by sending information to the brain, which then instructs the body what to do in a hazardous situation. These senses are fragile, however, and if damaged, could result in permanent injury or a lifelong handicap. Learn why your senses are important, and what you can do to protect them.
Learning Objectives:
1. Students will learn what the five senses are and why they are important.
2. Students will be introduced to the sense of sight, as well as vision-related problems, and methods for protecting vision.
3. Students will listen to discussion about the sense of hearing, and methods of safeguarding it.
4. Students will learn the importance of the sense of touch as well as problems and injuries that can affect the skin.
5. Students will be introduced to the sense of taste, how it can be negatively affected, and ways to prevent damage.
6. Students will learn about the sense of smell, some problems associated with it, and ways to preserve its function.
