Conflict can be one of the most stressful elements in
anyone's life. It can drain individuals of their physical and mental energy,
leaving them on the verge of exhaustion. For those whose conflicts are
allowed to go unresolved, pressure may build within them until it explodes
uncontrollably into violence and destruction. Developing conflict resolution
skills - learning to settle potentially explosive situations in a positive
and constructive manner - can often be helped by the process of peer
mediation.
Learning Objectives:
1) Students will learn the definition of define the term, 'conflict,' and
discuss two types of conflict--emotional and physical.
2) Students will learn about the physical and emotional effects of conflict
upon the body.
3) Students will learn ways in which people deal with conflict both
negatively and positively.
4) Students will learn about 'peer mediation' as a form of conflict
resolution, the benefits of peer mediation, and the role of the mediator.
5) Students will learn the process of peer mediation.
