Do we really have to pay attention to control and direct all
our behavior? How is it that we focus our attention on one input or stimulus and ignore
the rest? This program answers these questions by examining the following concepts: the
selective attention models of Broadbent and Triesman are described using real-life
examples such as air traffic controllers; divided attention theories are described and
evaluated; and the area of visual attention is illustrated by the demonstration of the
visual search technique and the Stroop test. (43 minutes, color)
