This program shows types of
homologous behavior in different species that can only be explained by
common ancestry, demonstrates the chromatographic technique for the
purification and sequencing of proteins, and explains how the evolutionary
history of life is reflected in the structure of proteins. After viewing the
program, students should be able to recognize certain behavioral homologies
in swans, geese, and other water birds as well as in apes and men,
understand broadly how homologies at the molecular level can be demonstrated
quantitatively by means of cellular chemistry, and grasp the significance
for evolutionary theory of the sequencing of proteins of different
organisms. (20 minutes)
