In the United States, there are three branches of government—the
Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches. They interact in a system of
checks and balances that prevents any one branch from becoming too powerful.
This program focuses on the Judicial Branch and its role in government.
Students see how its decisions affect our daily lives, how it resolves
disputes without bloodshed, how it interprets our laws and explains what
they mean, and how it prevents the Legislative and Executive Branches from
abusing their power.
