Let's Talk About PLC: Getting Started

Robert Eaker, Dennis Sparks, Richard DuFour, Rebecca DuFour

This lively series uses a question-and-answer format to guide viewers through some of the most common questions associated with the creation, implementation, and support of Professional Learning Communities. In addition to presenting valuable information gleaned from the authors’ years of experience building PLCs, these videos present questions for the audience to consider and discuss, such as:
- What happens in your school when it becomes evident that a student is not learning? What steps could you take to give additional time and support to students who experience initial difficulty in learning?
- Are teachers in your school organized into teams whose members work interdependently to achieve common goals? How will you organize your teachers into teams who focus their efforts on student learning?
- What steps has your school taken to provide teachers with time to collaborate on a regular basis during their contractual school day? What additional steps could be taken?
- How do you define consensus in your school?
- What do you think should happen when one person refuses to participate on a collaborative team or support the PLC concept after the staff has made a commitment to implement the model?
